Construção de novos hotéis é proibida em Amsterdã

Amsterdam, Netherlands will no longer allow the construction of new hotel buildings as part of its fight against mass tourism, the local government announced on Wednesday, April 17th.
"We want to create and maintain a livable city for residents and visitors. This means: no excessive tourism, no new hotels, and no more than 20 million tourist nights in hotels per year," the statement says.
A new hotel in Amsterdam can only be built if another hotel closes, if the number of beds does not increase, and if the new hotel is better – for example, more environmentally friendly.
However, this rule does not apply to new hotels that have already received permission.
The city is actively trying to limit the number of tourists, who amount to millions per year, primarily by discouraging sex and drug tourism in the red light district.
This is the latest in a series of measures taken by the Dutch capital to alleviate the problem of excessive tourism in the city.
Last year, the Amsterdam City Council voted to ban cruise ships and close the cruise terminal.
The city has also banned the use of marijuana on the streets of the red light district and put an end to tours that passed by the windows of sex workers.
According to a 2021 regulation called "Balanced Tourism in Amsterdam," the City Council is "required to intervene" when the number of tourists reaches 18 million.
